Barbara has occupied her corner booth at Mowers flea market,
down at the end of Maple lane, for 23 years. She specializes in sterling and
gold jewelry. With the addition of her
friend Laszlo, they also feature wester style boots and hats at their
booth. When fall approaches, Barbara
sets up her collection of vintage furs.
They can accommodate contactless payment via credit card.
At this time, little is known about Andrew Jackson Banks, the cook at Meads. When I wrote Images of Woodstock I used a quote found in a Kingston Freeman article in which Mrs. William Mead was interviewed. She referred to her cook as “Old Andrew”. He was paid about $25.00 a month and worked for the family for over 30 years. I would anticipate with more research, other aspects of Andrew’s life could be discovered. My Mom, Winnie Davis and her friend Gen Whitely are posing for a German photographer who was staying at Meads Mt. House. This pastoral setting she knew as Meads Meadow is now referred to as Magic Meadow.
The piece of information about Deanie Elwyn working as the “ second” chef for Harold Scism may add to the timeline of Deanies pre WW2 era career activity. Harold was the husband of Deanies longtime piano player- Flo. At the moment, my thoughts on Maude the cook- perhaps she came to Woodstock with Flo and Harold. Details will be posted as they emerge.

Published in 2007, Janine tells the story of the Maurer/Mower family whose descendants have been Woodstock residents since at least 1880.
Noah and Catherine Sitzer Mower's son Walter Mower is seen in front of the building that the family lived in during the late 19th century. Walter is shown with a wagon he used to transport the fruits and vegetables that he sold around Woodstock and the surrounding area. Walter and his son John Dave Mower had an exclusive contract to sell fresh produce to the Byrdcliffe art colony and also the communities of Twilight Park and Elk Park in Greene County.
Walter Mower's great grandson John, his gg grandson Allan and ggg granddaughter Emily sit on the front porch of what the family referred to as Aunt Nellie Mower's ice cream store. The clothing store known as Lily's now occupies this site.
