Mower's Saturday Sunday fleamarket celebrates their 40th anniversary
Wednesday, May 24, 2017
Celebrating 40 years in the fleamarket business on the corner of Deanies Alley and Maple Lane in Woodstock NY.
When Walter and Pricilla Short Mower purchased the old creamery lot in 1908, they were hoping to have a larger home for their growing family, as well as a plot of land to be able to grow produce for their thriving fruit and vegetable business. Their plan was a success, and their son John and his wife Esther took over the farm lot and home when their children were small and continued the fresh fruit and vegetable delivery business from the Maple Lane location until John’s untimely death in 1926. One hundred and nine years later, their great grandson John, his wife Janine and their family are getting ready to celebrate 40 years of flea marketing on the Maple Lane property. The flea market was started in 1977 after a local antique and collectible promoter closed up the outdoor market he was running in Woodstock. Vendors, left stranded with nowhere to set up and sell, approached John and suggested that the vacant lot on Maple Lane would be a perfect location to continue a weekly flea market. The rest, as they say, is history. Each week, May thru October, the Mower family plays host to up to 50 vendors who travel from the tri state region to set up and sell a wide variety of items. You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting to stroll around and explore the vendor booths set up on the old farm lot. The Mower family is honored to have their market listed as one of the top 10 flea market s in the USA by Fodor’s travel guide. They strive to bring in new vendors on a regular basis. Visit their web site mowerssaturdayfleamarket.com for information, call 845-679-6744, email email@example.com, friend the fleamarket on FB Mowers Saturday fleamarket, follow on Instagram # mowersflea. See you at the market!
